Obfuscator FAQ

Does Obfuscator overwrite my original File?

No. An Obfuscator Run creates output you can review and download. Keep your original input File if you will need the original values later.

Can I reverse the obfuscated output back to the original values?

No. The Obfuscator screens state that changes cannot be reversed after obfuscation runs. Treat the output as a separate masked dataset and keep the original File separately when needed.

Will running the same Configuration twice produce the same values?

Not necessarily. Obfuscation uses randomness for many methods, so running preview or running the Tool again may produce different values.

What happens to blank or missing values?

Obfuscator methods are designed to leave values shown as NULL unchanged. Blank-looking values can depend on how the File was imported, so review preview and output Records to confirm the result for your specific File.

Can I preview before running the full Tool?

Yes. The Run Obfuscator screen includes Preview (20 rows). Select one or more Fields and then select Preview to compare original and obfuscated values.

Why do some Fields not appear as choices?

Obfuscator shows enabled Fields from the selected Import Config when their types are supported. Supported types include Text, whole numbers, decimal numbers, dates, and date/time values. If the Import Config has unsupported enabled Fields, Obfuscator may show a warning that some Fields were skipped.

What should I do if the Problems count is not zero?

Review the Job Summary before using the output. Check the selected Configuration, Rule settings, Field names, date or date/time formats, and numeric ranges. If the issue continues and you cannot resolve it from the UI, contact your WebHammers administrator or support contact.

Can Obfuscator remove Records?

Obfuscator is used to change selected Field values in the output. If your goal is to keep or exclude Records, use Filterer.
